The State Government has given its approval for setting up two integrated
townships and three Special Economic Zones (SEZs) on the outskirts
of Bangalore city.
This was decided at the 15th State High Level Clearance Committee
meeting held on Thursday. Though the promoters are yet to get consent
from land owners regarding the transfer of land required for these
projects, the committee gave its in-principle approval for the two
townships.
The government will fulfil needs of land and water as per the requirement.
However, promoters have to get clearances from different agencies
such as the Forest Department and the Pollution Control Board depending
on the nature of the industry, before starting the ground work.
NEC Real Estate Pvt Ltd and Cornerstone Shelters Pvt Ltd are the
promoters of the two townships, which are coming up in Devanahalli
taluk. NEC Real Estate Pvt Ltd has proposed to develop a township
in an area of 500 acres, while Cornerstone Shelters will develop
another one in 200 acres.
The former will develop a tourism complex, commercial space, financial
hub, R&D facilities, service apartment and medical city, while
the latter will develop info-tech/hardware bio-tech park. Karnataka
Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) will acquire land for
these projects.
Gulf Oil Corporation has proposed an SEZ for IT/ITES at Kattiganahalli
in Yelahanka hobli. The company is proposing to develop the SEZ
on 30 acres of land, which is expected to provide employment for
40,000 people.
Poornimadevi Tech Park Pvt Ltd, a new company, has proposed to develop
another SEZ for ITES in an area of 32 acres and 16 guntas in Sulikere
in Kengeri Hobli (Bangalore South). The project is located adjacent
to the proposed peripheral ring road of BDA. Promoters of the project,
whose total investment is Rs 55 crore, are M C Shivakumar and L
Umadevi. The project is expected to provide employment for 25,550
people.
Another SEZ, exclusively for bio-technology, has been proposed by
Gopalan Enterprises (India) Pvt Ltd with total investment of Rs
190 crore.
The SEZ is proposed to come up in Kundanahalli and Nallurahalli
villages of Bangalore East taluk. The project is proposed to provide
employment for 45,000 people. Main promoters for the project are
C Gopalan, C Pramod and C Prabhakar. Land for the project has already
been acquired.
Apart from this, the committee has cleared two projects dedicated
to promote medical tourism. Dr Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudayala
has got approval to set up Super Speciality Hospital, star category
hotel and serviced apartments in 30 acres of land near the Bangalore
International Airport. The total investment for the project is Rs
990 crore. Land will be acquired by the KIADB. Similarly, Sri Sathya
Sai Narayana Hospitals Ltd is setting up a Health City in an area
of 25 acres near BIA in Devanahalli. The total investment is Rs
430 crore and the project is expected to create jobs for 6,750 people.
V Umesh, Principal Secretary (Industries Dept), said that the hospitals
will be providing treatment to patients referred by the state government
at subsidised rate.
Star hotel
SHLCC has also cleared setting up of a 5 Star hotel in Industrial
Area, whitefield in Bangalore. M/S Dan Hospitality India Pvt Ltd,
an Israeli firm has come forward to set up the hotel at a cost of
Rs 201 crore in 2 acres and 1 gunta.
The project is expected to provide employment to 540 people.
