Voltas Air International is a 50-50 equity joint venture between
Voltas India Ltd. and Air International, Australia. Both the
joint venture partners are leaders in their respective countries
in Air Conditioner manufacture. The Joint Venture was established
in December 1995 and the assembly line was set up in October
1997.
It was set up to manufacture Air Conditioning systems for passenger
cars, trains, buses and off highway vehicles like mining machines,
shovels
and excavators. The company currently supplies air conditioners
for Tata Engineering's Indica, Sumo and Safari. It is also the
sole supplier for the left hand drive export models. It has
just introduced a Hi-Tech, indigenously produced military grade
air conditioner for the Indian Army's mobile communication system
in remote areas.
The company also plans to tap the Indian Railways increasing
requirement of carriage air- conditioner equipment. They will
also be introducing the Australian Partners air conditioner
for the inter-city luxury buses.
It is a Rs. 24 crore company, set up with an equity capital
of Rs. 11.3 crore. It has a staff strength of 75 with engineering
capabilities in the fields of design, analysis, development,
CAD modeling and tooling. The company has established a full-fledged
CAD facility with the world famous 'I-DEAS' software.
