The
Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) began as
the Mysore Film Chamber of Commerce in the year 1944, comprising
of a few members who formed themselves into an Association,
which subsequently became The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce.
It is the apex body of the Karnataka Film Industry
and takes care of the smooth sailing of the industry and in
solving the problems of the members who are the Producers,
Distributors and the Exhibitors, and also sometimes in between
the member and non-members like Artists, technicians, workers,
etc.
The Chamber also takes interest in the government decisions
both state and central on film industry policy and negotiates
with the government for suitable amendments
in the interests of the film industry. It also acts as the
Conciliation Board, which arbitrates decision for their members,
which is recognised by the Honourable Court.
KFCC have also been involved in programmes like AIDS awareness,
Blood donation camps, etc. They contributed to the Kargil
victims, Orissa Cyclone and Gujarat Earthquake affected victims.
"All the film personalities had contributed and a
rally was organised for collecting funds which were later
distributed to the affected victims," says
K.C.N Chandrashekar, President.
"We had conducted a workshop on film script writing
for 10 days for which famous personalities like Shyam
Benegal, Mahesh Bhatt, Prof. Satish Bahadur, Sangeetham Srinivas
Rao, etc had attended and it was a unique kind of experience,"
recalls Chandrashekar.
They even help budding artists whose talents will be exposed
to the producers who later absorb the artist if they are impressed.
KFCC had played a major role during the Dr.Rajkumar abduction
period. It took the lead role in maintaining the peace and
communal harmony.
At present KFCC is busy co-ordinating for the Film Festival
that will be held from 10th to 20th October wherein around
2000 delegates would be participating.
They
are bringing out a special book 'Kannada Film's History'
which talks about the development of the Kannada films from
the beginning and the volume is 1500 pages and will be published
by Hampi Vishwa Vidyalaya.
Their future plan is to demolish the present building and
construct a new multi purpose building, which accommodates
those who are connected with the film industry and associations
and to have an ultra-modern high technology Preview Theatre,
which would be the first of its kind in the state.
