Dr. Vishnuvardhan - A spontaneous actor of Kannada filmdom

There are three categories of people. The first category do not know that they do not know anything, the second category of people are those who know that they do not know anything, and the third kind are people who know that they know everything. I fall in the second category," says, Kannada film star "Sahasa Simha" (as the star is popularly known), Apthamithra, Dr. Vishnuvardhan.

Sahasasimha', 'Yajamana', 'Sooryavamsha', 'Soorappa', 'Nagarahavu', 'Bandhana', 'Gandhada Gudi' are all some of the major milestones of this spontaneous actor of Kannada filmdom. Vishnuvardhan, is honoured with a doctorate by the Bangalore University on January 6th 2006. Though Vishnuvardhan started his film career with the movie Vamshavruksha, it was director genius Puttana Kanagal's Nagarahaavu who paved way for the actor in him to grow. The angry young Ramachaari, the character Vishnuvardhan played in Nagarahaavu, is still considered as among the best characters that have doned Kannada cinema to date.

Vishnuvardhan needs no introduction to Kannada moviegoers. This versatile actor has set millions of hearts aflutter for over three decades. Judging by his hectic shooting schedules, he is going to continue charming his fans for many more years to come. "As far as this birth of mine is considered, I am fortunate. God has had a very soft corner for me. I am happy as I am today," says the star who, apart from Kannada has also acted in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu and Malayalam movies.

Sahasa Simha (the lion of action), feels that his home and surroundings have played a crucial in his success story. He is of the opinion that actors should remain mere actors."I do not like the whole idea of number 1 super stars and mega stars. Only horses have numbers. We are actors, and everyone has ups and downs in their profession. You cannot be labelled a superstar because you have a good professional phase now. Sooner or later, he is bound to have a bad phase too," says Vishnuvardhan whose performances in movies such as Bandhana, Halunda Thavaru, Malaya Marutha, Muttinahara, Suprabhata and Hombisilu has touched many hearts.

The existence of three decades in Kannada cinema is itself an indication of his strong ability. His concentration, Devotion towards work is admirable. From his aggressive role in the film 'Nagarahavu' the cute Ramachari in the film never looked back with sorrow on any day. He continuous offers kept him so busy and he had very short gaps in his career. There is nothing like a good film or a bad film but there is a good time or bad time Vishnuvardhan kept on saying from the beginning of his career.

Vishnuvardhan never reverted back from his action image and he still continues at this age of 50 years.Vishnu has completed 33 years of film career. Many of his fans and Kannada cinegoers are desperately waiting to see the glory back in the years to come. Vishnuvardhan always maintained his interviews that he is puppet at the hands of a director like 'clay at the hands of Kambara'. From the day one in filmdom, Vishnu has been surrounded by controversies. He is called angry young man, moody chap, and of late philosophical.

Like most Vishnuvardhan movies, let his coming movies too become a crowd puller! We wish him all the best!
