What does the name
Karnataka bring to your mind? SOUTH INDIAN SOFTWARE ENGINEERS
you might say. Well, you would be sadly out of "sync". Besides
those ubiquitous software guys, Karnataka is known for many
other things.
Its
natural beauty, for instance. Karnataka has three distinct regions,
each with its distinct geography, culture and ethos. It has
a narrow coastal strip with beaches along the Arabian sea; high
hills formed by the western ghats providing the tropical forest
touch; and the sprawling plains towards the east with its burgeoning
cities.
It is a land of fragrance with its spices, sandalwood, varieties
of jasmine flowers, and heady incense sticks. It is the land
where smooth and crepe silks are generated and ivory and silver
are used for inlay work. It is a land of charming contrasts
- immortal monuments, sculptures, temples and palaces jostling
with beaches, forests and the hustle-bustle of rapidly growing
industrial cities.
And yet, there is much more to Karnataka than sandalwood, silk
and spices. Join us now in exploring this land of "laid back"
people who will at times go to great lengths to "swalpa" adjust
for others!
