SHARAVANABELAGOLA:

Gomateshwara Gomateshwara statue is the Jain Tirthankara (Saint Bahubali), 1000 years old, 17 metres tall, and carved from a single stone. Created by sculptor Aristanemi in 981 AD, he towers from atop the Indragiri hill overlooking the town Shravanabelagola.The world's tallest monolithic statue is one of the oldest and the most important Jain pilgrimage centres in India.

The Mahamastak-abhisheka is an elaborate ritual when the mammoth statue is bathed with milk, honey, ghee and water. This fascinating ceremony is held once in 12 years, attracting devotees from all over the world. You have to climb up 614 rock-cut steps to reach the top.

150 kms from Bangalore. There are direct buses from Sravanabelagola to Arsikere, Hassan, Mysore and Bangalore.

UDUPI:

Golden Chariot, UdupiUdupi, the land where the Masala Dosa originated, is also famous as the birthplace of Madhvacharya, the great Sankrit philosopher.

The Shri Krishna Temple in Udupi has a significant point to make. Kanakana Kindi is a window hollowed out at the back of the temple by an ardent devotee Kanaka Dasa when he wasn't allowed to enter through the main entrance. The beautiful idol of Krishna had turned around and faced Kanaka Dasa and it is so even to this day!
